Last week, four different informations caught my eyes on wind energy. Firstly, Germany and Italy are planning to build offshore parks. Both projects will inject giga watts to the grids.
Other news : after ten years of research, the NASA created a map allowing to know where are located the best places for offshore wind turbines.
Last but not least, a famous US billionaire – T Boone Pickens – now advocates wind energy as one of the best solution for his country’s energy independence.
On the future German offshore wind turbines parks, the Agence France Presse provides us interesting data :
The German government wants to build up to 30 offshore windfarms in a bid to meet its renewable energy targets, Transport Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee said in an interview published Sunday.
Tiefensee told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper that the windfarms would be built in the Baltic and North seas and said some 2,000 windmills should soon be producing 11,000 megawatts of electricity.
The government is aiming to obtain “25,000 megawatts of energy from windfarms by 2030”, Tiefensee said.
(…)Germany’s Bundestag or lower house of parliament passed a law last month aimed at increasing the amount of power generated by renewable energy sources like wind or solar power to 30 percent from the current 14 percent by 2020.
For more on this, please read the full article.
Italy’s plans are more modest and plan to build “only” 115 wind turbines for an estimated price of 500 million Euros as Forbes reports. The project will add around 500 MW to the grids.
Third news (thanks to Meryn for sending this to me), the NASA created maps due to easily implement offshore wind turbines. You can learn out more on this interesting news by reading the official press release.
But the most interesting piece of data I got was from Cleantechnica and concerns T Boone Pickens energy plan. Since this is a really big news, I will write about it on a specific article that will come later this week.
So for this and for much more, stay tuned !
T. Boone Pickens has a good video explaining his wind power and natural gas plan.

Hey Joe, nice to see you drop by and thanks for your comment ! 🙂
Yeah, I saw the video and found it interesting as well. I will talk about the Pickens Plan this week as I will dedicate to it a whole article.
Stay tuned and see you around on your blog or here ! 🙂
