Even if there have been many good news on the environmental fronts in the past few months, there are still some bad ones. While deforestation of the Amazon rainforest had been drastically reduced since 2004, it seems it increased last year.
As Treehugger reports : “According to the Brazilian forest monitoring agency which uses satellite imagery to track deforestation in real-time, the world’s largest rainforest lost of 606 square miles of rainforest between August 2012 and April 2013 ”
” All told, this latest figure represents an increase of 88 percent over the previous year in which 322 square miles (Nota : 833 square kilometers ) was cleared.”
