This is that time of the month: the one for me to present my selection of the best pictures of the NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD). As always, this month was packed with beautiful images. It was very difficult to select just ten.
This month was special as on July 21st we were celebrating the Apollo program and Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, who were the first to set foot on the moon 40 years ago.
The picture above shows the Lunar Module – callsign Eagle. It was taken by Michael Collins from the Command and Service Module.

The other main event of the month was the solar eclipse, which is due to be the longest of the 21st century with no less than six minutes and 42 seconds. Here are a few picture which were taken for the occasion:
