For my first blog post of this year, I would like to wish you all a happy and sustainable new year ! I also would like to thank the hundreds of you who have subscribed to this blog and/or read my ramblings, thoughts on sustainability, analysis on energy and so on.
This marks the beginning of my 17th season of blogging. I started that blog back in 2007 when sustainability was a vague buzzword and climate change a future threat. Nowadays, sustainability is increasingly embedded in our lives and climate change is a present and imminent danger to most if not all of us.
If our collective response to the climate emergency is still not on par with the urgency of the threat, our collective mind is increasingly aware of it and demanding that our societies and economies reflect this increasingly dire situation.
I am still optimistic, even if on many days it’s hard. 2022 was hard as COVID kept on hitting and killing and temperatures soared all across France, Europe and the world. But the worst is still not certain.
We have all the technological solutions to slash greenhouse gases emissions and reach a carbon neutral future.
We have all the means to restore Nature and regenerate our planet. (Cf my recent review of Regeneration by Paul Hawken)
The business case for doing so is now overwhelming as solutions are cheaper and better.
All that is lacking is political will to implement such solutions.
All over the world, most of our “representatives” do not represent us, either because they are being lobbied by Big Oil, Big Ag and other industries or because they don’t believe alternatives are better, cheaper and healthier than the status quo.
It is up to us as citizens and professionals to remind them as well as our business communities that another world is both possible and imperative if we are to survive as a species.
On a personal note, 2023 will mark another beginning. While I still don’t know the exact details, I know that I will keep on working to have an impact on our current crises. So, stay tuned !
I wish you all the best for this New Year Edouard !! Thank you for sharing your analysis with us through this blog 🙂
Thank you so much Marine for your kind words and support !
I hope this blog will keep on providing you insight and news on our collective transitions. There is so much to be done, in the US, in Europe, all over the world…
